Dave's dad and uncle were both called to serve in Germany as missionaries. Oma has her family still in Northern Germany and they were able to serve in the same area as their relatives. We went to visit the relatives on a Sunday and we went to church in Heide. The church we went to still had people there that Dave's dad knew from his mission.
I love the streets there.
I loved meeting them and hanging out with the relatives. Oma's sister and brother-in law live in a very cute town that is designed to look like Copenhagen. I LOVED it!! They didn't speak any English by their kids understood it and their grand-kids spoke English. The food she made was AMAZING!! It was definetly the best food of the trip.
After dinner Uncle Helmut took us to see where Oma grew up. It was a house in the country. It was so amazing to see. The army brought 4 or 5 soldiers who were injured to Oma's house and made them take care of them.
We also looked around the city where Oma's sister lives now. Oma had lived in that city a little growing up and then her and Opa lived there right after they were married. It is a city that is designed after Copenhagen. It was an amazing city. It has a stream that winds around the city. It is beautiful!!
This is a pretty rose in front of one of the houses.
Oma lived above this bakery when she was little.
The stream behind us. They take people on boat tours in the summer.
A cool house we saw
Dave had to pee......
We went to visit a cemetary where a few of their relatives are buried. The cemetaries are very pretty. The family rents an area for 20 years. After 20 years they can rent it for another 20 years or they rent it to someone else and put their body over yours. Not sure how I feel about it. I do like how the plots are bigger and unique.
They sang God Be With You Till We Meet Again as we were leaving. It was so sad to not know if we will ever see them again. They were truly some of the sweetest people I have ever met.
Oma's sisters house.
This is where we stayed when we went to Hamburg and visiting the relatives.
